Happy Hour Against Patriarchy in New York

unnamedNew York City — The transnational feminist organization AF3IRM will commemorate March as International Women’s Month on March 7, 2015 through a cultural exchange of arts, poetry, and a lecture-conversation on theory building.

Called the ‘Happy Hour Against the Patriarchy’, AF3IRM New York will share excerpts of their member’s books and journals, render songs, read poems, and show their works of art in the auspices of the YaYa Network in lower Manhattan from six o’clock in the evening.

There will be a short lecture on the importance of theory building for the feminist movement world-wide which will be shared and facilitated by Ms. Ninotchka Rosca, one of the founding chairpersons of AF3IRM.

The ‘Happy Hour Against Patriarchy’ is designed to strengthen political and personal ties among us sisters and enrich each other’s cultural and ideological depth, said Olivia Canlas, AF3IRM New York coordinator.

AF3IRM is in the forefront in the movement against trafficking against women and children through its Purple Rose campaign. In New York, it has gained ground in institutionalizing the Summer School of Women’s Activism which is now on its 5th year. It tackles major topics on the history of women’s rights movements, trafficking, militarism, and current conditions of women’s rights movements globally.
