March for the Feminist Future in honor of International Women’s Day in Downtown Los Angeles on March 3rd!

LOS ANGELES — On Saturday, March 3rd, the women of AF3IRM Los Angeles will bring people together in the streets of downtown LA in honor of International Women’s Day/International Working Women’s Day. Now in its fourth consecutive year, the march continues to be led by women-identified feminists of color and to make visible the needs and issues of women, especially women of color. This year the march is presented under the banner of “UPRISING: Forward to a Feminist Future,” as organizers put forth their visions for a future built from radical imaginations where we are free of violence against women, free of oppression from the state and other institutions, and simply free to thrive.

Thousands of people are expected to converge, beginning 12 noon at the Metropolitan Detention Center at Alameda and Aliso Streets. AF3IRM has repeatedly returned to the Detention Center during its annual marches to call for im/migrant justice and to fight back against criminalization of im/migrants. Other issues that will be covered by speakers throughout the event include youth activism, police brutality/occupation, trans women’s rights, Islamophobia and state violence, workers’ rights, the missing, murdered, and trafficked women, climate change and more. Confirmed performers include: DJ collective Chulita Vinyl Club, Latina feminist poets Chingona Fire, and hip hop MC Klassy. The march will end at Los Angeles’s CIty Hall on Spring Street between First and Temple Streets. This year, participants are also invited to join pre-march activities, including talking circles, screen printing and sign-making, starting at 11am.

AF3IRM’s 2018 International Women’s Day March and Rally in Los Angeles has been endorsed by more than 50 organizations and collectives. Leading up to and the day of the march, follow hashtag #IWDLA2018, as well as AF3IRM LA (@af3irmla) accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Join AF3IRM Los Angeles as we continue to mobilize our communities and strengthen this transformative movement for genuine women’s liberation. Let us fill the streets of Los Angeles with our voices, our songs, and our bodies of revolutionary resistance as we move forward to a feminist future!
