LOS ANGELES–On Sunday, March 5th, 2017, AF3IRM will center the experiences and voices of women of color with a march and rally in downtown Los Angeles to mark International Women’s Day. This march, organized for the third year in a row, will call attention to the diverse issues facing women today, as well as call on women and allies to join the feminist uprising and put forth collective visions of liberation and freedom. Over the past two years, AF3IRM has brought thousands of people to downtown Los Angeles to speak out against attacks on women and our communities worldwide, demonstrate solidarity for women’s struggles, and remember the legacies and herstories of women who have come before us. Now in the wake of the new presidential administration, the massive Women’s March, and the continued acts of public resistance, AF3IRM expects this year’s gathering to be bigger than ever as more people are activated and eager to get organized for change. The march will begin and end at the Los Angeles Police Department Headquarters and will include a stop at the Metropolitan Detention Center. Speakers throughout the march will represent various organizations such as TransLatin@ Coalition, Black Lives Matter LA, Immigrant Youth Coalition, Tiyaa, and UTLA . Performers scheduled to appear include Maya Jupiter, Medusa, Grammy Award-winning Quetzal, and Xochi Flores from Los Cambalache.

This International Women’s Day March and Rally is part of AF3IRM’s Women’s Month activities across the nation. Other events include participating in the International Women’s Day Strike on March 8th and the “No Borders! No Nations! End Deportations!” demonstration in solidarity with all immigrants at the Contra Costa West County Detention Facility in Northern California on March 11th. International Women’s Day (also known as International Working Women’s Day) has been observed around the world since 1911.
